Lot of detail yet to be revealed as to how this unfolded, but some senior level individuals in the Texas Tech athletic dept were adamant about fighting for Sorsby. I believe the Big 12 lawsuit + what appeared to be a significant sweeping boycott from opposing programs tipped it.

Just confirmed that Brendan Sorsby will be applying for the NFL supplemental draft. I believe when this is ultimately all laid out, it will be a matter of Texas Tech succumbing to outside pressure.

It’s uncharted territory. Yes, in theory. Again, in theory. I’m not a lawyer. 😂 But from what I’ve been told, the NFL could still refuse Sorsby’s entrance into the supplemental draft. Nobody truly knows how this could break, because it has never happened before in #NFL history.

You can’t just declare for an NFL supplemental draft. Sorsby, like every supplemental draft entry, is required to provide a rationale for their entry that is based on eligibility. The Big 12 mounting a protest vs. Sorsby would have to be argued as an eligibility issue. In 7 days.

So folks understand, this isn’t how the NFL’s supplemental draft works. You can’t just “pull” and enter the supplemental. Because you’re attempting to join a supplemental draft after a standard draft, you need to supply a reason for the NCAA determining your eligibility is void.

The NCAA’s declaration that Sorsby is ineligible would have to be upheld in court. His recently-granted injunction against it makes the point moot. The Big 12’s action? This is unprecedented. There is nothing to guide the situation right now. History is being created as we move.

Despite the gambling addiction that he has admitted to, I believe Sorsby would absolutely, 100%, be selected in the #NFL supplemental draft if he were eligible. Which, right now, it does not appear he will be eligible. A lot would have to happen in 7 days, which is the deadline.

The pertinent question! The answer is no. Unless the NCAA strikes his eligibility down, he doesn’t have an opportunity to enter the NFL’s supplemental draft. This is a wild, crazy space. In a way, college football has declared war on Brendan Sorsby. And his options are dwindling.
