Good question. There’s no pads but there’s still competitive football happening. You can evaluate: how well a guy picks up the playbook, if they’re making mental mistakes, work ethic, technique, application of the requested technique for each play, doing the job of blocking the defender they’re supposed to. There’s a lot to evaluate and as a player show to the staff. There’s caveat is that there’s no pads so it’s a partial eval at best. I’ve seen guys rise to 1st string reps by the end of OTAs and then be 3rd string and cut by the end of training camp. 3rd stringer end up making the roster and pushing for a starting role based on training camp and preseason games. Camp is way more important than OTAs but OTAs have value. Darren Carter (@dkraigcarter) Hi Mitch. My apologies for switching topics here.
