If you’re using my printable 1-pagers again this year (or if you’re not!)—I’ve got a new feature to help you prepare: There’s a new mock-draft simulation feature-- open to all! This is a new trick at Subvertadown.com : Mock draft simulations, against automated (and randomized) opponent picks. It’s a free feature, and I really hope it helps you guys prepare. Even if you find yourself using a static printout 1-pagers, you might might change the way you approach a snake draft, after you play with the mock-draft simulation. Log-in is free and has no strings (log-in is required to remember picks and remember your settings). Simply select“Snake” mode (instead of Auction) in TapThatDraft, and in the draft room, you check the “Auto-Mock” button. And you can even complete a mock draft in under 60 seconds, since the tool also recommends the best option(s) for your roster at each turn. . Why do people bother with mock drafts? If you think Mock Drafts aren’t for you, here's a summary of my thoughts, that might change your mind. (I would have pasted it here, but then these posts get too long!) It tells how the TapThatDraft features changed my own mind-- so obviously it's totally biased-- but maybe someone out there will get an "aha" moment. . TL;DR: How recommendations work, when mock-drafting against simulated opponents Here's a tiny intro about the logic applied to the "Priority" helper. To "beat the system”, the tool gives recs by combining your OWN rankings against others’ draft list (such as ADP). This way, it helps with finding steals (for your settings), avoiding cliffs, plus the roster balancing thing. A bunch of angles working together. TL;DR: (1) The tool guesses other team behavior (upcoming drop-off in positional value)— So it might suggest a moves to avoid missing out. (1b) It also estimates “positional optionality” to de-risk losing a positional advantage of a player who might fall to you, while roster balancing. (2) You get a big advantage by tailoring rankings to your league settings and league size—if they’re any different from “normal/default”. (3) You can choose different references to simulate your opponent draft behavior: ADP, ESPN draft room, or Own rankings. (FYI the algorithms are of own design.) One thing it does is apply logic to avoid drop-offs in positional value, by forecasting the other teams’ picks. This can be big! Especially since the tool keeps track of all other rosters, to guess the picks of those specific teams who will make picks before your next turn. Another built-in consideration is “optionality”, = the possibility you might later benefit from a “steal”, if you leave that roster position open. The tool’s top recommendations also match your current roster needs. The pick recommendations come directly from player “worth”-- calculated according to YOUR preferences. Specially, TapThatDraft combines 2 important angles: (1) Here's an article describing how it lets you tailor your input player rankings according to your favorite expert rankings (yourself?). Or just use ECR. And (2) Your league settings will convert the player “values” to represent YOUR settings. (This is Value-Based Drafting [link to primer]. Prioritize your draft capital to match your “league economi…
