With only a few weeks to go, I can’t wrap up this series without digging into the IDP side of things. While IDP scoring can vary wildly league-to-league, we’ll pretend that there is a single one size fits all set up. Yes, if you’re in a defensive tackle premium league, you’ll need to adjust accordingly in your drafts, you get it. Even if you’re only in one IDP league, it’s good to know where these players are going so you know which offensive players might get a small bump down as defensive players slide ahead of them. I’m a bitter old man who is resistant to change. I miss the days when you had defensive linemen, tackles on the inside and an end on the outside, and that was that. Now, with so many different schemes and looks. This is more nuanced than ever. In some leagues, Edge is anyone designated as an end in a 4-3 system or an outside linebacker in the 3-4 system. In other leagues, those Edge players are listed as linebackers, and only 4-3 ends are designated as DEs. It’s all a bit confusing, so while I’ll be speaking in generalities, you’ll have to apply whatever specifics to your own leagues apply to you. To fully understand the wild variance possible in IDP leagues, the Chargers drafted Akheem Mesidor 22nd overall in the NFL draft. On draft day, they called him a linebacker, on most sites he’s an EDGE and some sites have him as a DT, so pay attention to player designations in your individual leagues, and know how the scoring settings could impact the player with said designation. I’ll share the current MFL Rookie ADP from DLF to see where the defensive players are going in drafts. The first thing to address is that, for some reason, Reuben Bain Jr is missing. With that out of the way, here is a look at FantasyPros IDP ADP to compare and contrast with the above list. Linebackers For the most part, linebackers are the biggest defensive point producers in IDP leagues. Off the ball linebackers in particular. Sadly, the best definition I could find was from Reddit , “An off-ball linebacker is a traditional linebacker who lines up several yards behind the defensive line. Rather than primarily rushing the passer like an edge defender, their primary responsibilities include stopping the run, dropping into pass coverage against running backs and tight ends, and calling out defensive adjustments.” Tackles produce points and typically the off-the-ball linebackers rack up tackles. Sonny Styles , LB WAS Stiles was drafted as a day one replacement for the departing veteran Bobby Wagner . In his vacated role, Wagner racked up 162 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and two interceptions. While it isn’t fair to assume Styles will be a one-to-one replacement for the future Hall of Famer, Styles is in a great spot to be an instant fantasy producer. SUBSCRIBE TO DLF PREMIUM!
