So in baseball, there's several different drafts that happen where teams can draft players off of other teams - the most famous being the Rule V since that has direct MLB roster implications. Basically, since development in baseball takes so long, it helps give players a chance stuck behind other players in a franchise as well as helps prevent a franchise from just hoarding talent and keeping it in the minors. I thought it might be an interesting thing to add to deeper fantasy leagues. Just spitballing, but for example eligible players could be whoever encompasses the last 3 roster spots (determined by the team's manager; also means that if it's not a full roster, you're not choosing 3 players - eg if you have an empty bench spot, that means you'd only have to rule 2 eligible players). Same ordering rules as rookie draft so worst teams get first picks. Pros being it: would help foster more roster movement without touching important players helps add more parity in the league by getting players off contending rosters and putting them onto rebuilding rosters help fuel more trades (since you'd rather get eg a 3rd/4th back for a player rather than nothing at all) adds something to do post-season between the end of the season and the draft (would need to be before the draft, because you wouldn't want a fresh draft pick being picked away) The negatives I can think of: it would really suck losing a good player for nothing just because you're better at putting a team together it being during a time some people like to just check out of fantasy (though could be later in the season if you do a later rookie draft) it just being a lot of added work for players that are insanely likely to not contribute anyway. Just as example, the three players I would have had to put up would have been Tyjae Spears (definitely would have traded instead of losing him for nothing, and would have more value on a rebuilding roster rather than being my RB6) Michael Mayer (waived post-draft for roster space, instantly picked up; definitely would have been a pick and possibly could have found a trade partner with someone picking later) Chimere Dike (waived post-draft for roster space, still on waivers; possible been a pick since this would be pre-Tate being picked but likely would be back on waivers now). submitted by /u/ohkaycue [link] [comments]
