Welcome back to the DLF Mailbag, the preeminent mailbag in all the dynasty fantasy football land. I’ve spoken a number of times across a variety of articles about the concept of being a perennial also-ran. To be clear, there’s something to be said for functioning as an above-average team year in and year out – after all, you can’t have a potentially epic playoff run if you don’t make the playoffs! But more often than not, this will result in going “Full Pittsburgh” and getting bounced in the Wild Card Round, then effectively costing yourself the chance at a strong draft pick. While it’s a different sport, and a much larger pool of teams, the New York Knicks might represent something of a counterargument. Over the past few years they’ve finished third, third, second and fifth in the Eastern Conference, often several games behind the eventual #1 seed. Up until just a few days ago, that worked out exactly as you might have expected, with the team falling short of the promised land. Then 2026 happened. After winning their opening series against the Atlanta Hawks 4-2, the Knicks won 10 straight and 12 of 13 games in claiming the crown. The simple fact is they caught fire at the right time, and did their best work in the postseason. Is this something I’d want to count on? Certainly not. But as the regular season goes on, it’s important to ask ourselves if we believe our records are truly reflective of our teams’ overall talent and abilities. Were we hampered by injuries? Did we run into a monster strength of schedule? Did our players not have great matchups? These are all reasons as to why teams limping into the postseason might not be as toothless as they appear. And while I still believe in making the moves to best enhance our chances, I can understand having a simple belief in our team’s true nature. Just look at the Knicks. As a reminder, there are multiple ways to pose your burning questions! You can send me a tweet on Twitter/X ( @EDH_27 ), and you can also reach out using our Discord channel, or the old-fashioned way ( via our online webform ). Let’s get to it! From the old-school webform… Elementary, My Dear Watson Which side do you prefer for a rebuilding team in a 12-team, superflex, TE-premium league – Christian Watson and Dalton Kincaid , or a 2027 first-round pick? As with many things in life, outputs are only as good as inputs. And given that Packers receiver Watson just signed a new four-year, $92 million deal ($110.5 million max, $31 million guaranteed) only a couple of weeks ago, it’s unsurprising that his ADP hasn’t yet caught up. To be clear, as with most any deal in the NFL, it’s unlikely to last the duration – but based upon the contract structure it should keep Watson in Green Bay for at least another two years, which is now the second time they’ve extended his rookie deal. As such, I’m taking the DLF Trade Analyzer outputs with a small pile of salt. Statistics courtesy of Pro Football Reference . It’s true that through four years Watson has yet to realize his full potential. When a player misses 19 out of a possible 67 contests due to injury, this is bound to happen. And if you’re of the belief that injuries are broadly unforeseeable, then perhaps this doesn’t bother you. However, if you believe health is a skill, then perhaps you’re viewing the above in a different light. As they say, the best ability is availability, and in that regard Watson hasn’t answered the bell. And though he looked good last season in coming b…
