Happy Friday, everyone! The Seattle Seahawks have their rookies reporting to training camp today, which means football is soooo very close to being officially back! Let’s take a look at the latest news, along with a July update on QB Rankings and where things stand before training camps open. This Substack is reader-supported. The Latest Fantasy Football News Patrick Mahomes — QB (KC) Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes “on track to be on the field Week 1” per Ian Rapoport Mahomes is rehabbing ahead of schedule after a torn ACL/LCL ended his 2025 season. Rapoport reports Mahomes has been spending “seven hours or so in the building rehabbing as much as humanly possible,” and a Week 1 return would mark just under a nine-month recovery — on the quicker end of ACL/LCL timelines. It’s still an awfully optimistic timeline, but all signs point to Mahomes being under center for Kansas City’s opener. George Pickens — WR (DAL) Cowboys WR George Pickens will officially play under the franchise tag for the 2026 season The July 15th deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign long-term deals came and went without Pickens signing a new deal. Cowboys EVP Steven Jones had said in April there “won’t be negotiations on a long-term deal.” Pickens showed up for mandatory minicamp and does not plan to hold out of training camp. He’ll play on a $27.3 million franchise tag and either reach an extension after the season or hit unrestricted free agency in 2027. Will Grier — QB (FA) Will Grier announced his retirement from the NFL after seven seasons Grier was drafted by the Panthers in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft and made two starts as a rookie, but never saw the field again. He spent time with five different teams after being released by Carolina. He returned to Charlotte this offseason but decided against another year of football. His career ends with 228 yards, zero touchdowns, and four interceptions. Alvin Kamara — RB (NO) NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports Alvin Kamara’s base salary was reduced to $6 million for 2026. Kamara can earn up to another $2.5 million via incentives. He was initially set to make up to $11.5 million before his deal was restructured on Wednesday. The Saints were pushing for him to take a pay cut this offseason, but it initially looked like Kamara wasn’t going to budge. Jalen Tolbert — WR (MIA) Jalen Tolbert emerging as one of Malik Willis’ top targets in OTAs and minicamp, per David Furones The South Florida Sun Sentinel’s David Furones believes Tolbert “appeared to be” one of Willis’ top targets during spring workouts. Tolbert is well off the fantasy radar at this point, not ranked among the top-100 wideouts in ADP. The ceiling is likely low, but if he can emerge as the top option among Miami’s wideouts, Tolbert could carve out a viable WR3/WR4 role at points this season. Tyjae Spears — RB (TEN) Titans.com’s Jim Wyatt believes Tyjae Spears “has a chance to have a bigger role as a runner” This is an annual drumbeat from Titans camp. Spears suffered an ankle injury early last season that limited his reps. If he can stay healthy, his overall share of backfield snaps and touches should increase.
