The NFL Draft is behind us, rookie drafts are taking place, and as dynasty managers, we are looking ahead to the upcoming season. In our Dynasty Rookie Post-Draft Update series, we break down all the incoming fantasy-relevant rookies, looking at their profiles and where they fit. The basis of the rookie profile involves the usage of STORM analysis, focusing on five key components: Situation, Talent, Opportunity, Risk, and Market. Situation Name: Michael Trigg Position: Tight End Pro Team: Dallas Cowboys College Team: Baylor Draft Status: Undrafted For a lot of tight ends, we anticipate they will take a developmental journey into the NFL. Despite seeing evidence to the contrary in recent seasons with rookie tight ends smashing in their first year in the league, conventional wisdom used to dictate that tight ends would take three to four years to develop due to the complicated nature of the position. For early-round tight ends, the developmental pathway might be shorter, but we’re still seeing that some prospects need longer. For example, Trey McBride was a second-round pick, but it took until his second season for him to break into the top 10 TEs, and he didn’t truly break out until year three. For a talent like Michael Trigg, that pathway might need to be longer, and even then he might never reach his developmental potential. He looks like he was built in a lab to play tight end, with a genuinely combine-breaking wingspan of 84” and 34-inch arms that would make him a freak athlete if he were playing on the edge. He’s a fluid mover, with a real speed advantage when working the seam, and a consistent high-point ability. But with attitude problems clouding his career across three different colleges and concerns about his effort levels, Trigg ended up going undrafted.
