The NFL Draft is behind us, rookie drafts are taking place, and as dynasty managers, we are looking ahead to the upcoming season. In our Dynasty Rookie Post-Draft Update series, we break down all the incoming fantasy-relevant rookies, looking at their profiles and where they fit. The basis of the rookie profile involves the usage of STORM analysis, focusing on five key components: Situation, Talent, Opportunity, Risk, and Market. Situation Name: Fernando Mendoza Position: Quarterback Pro Team: Las Vegas Raiders College Team: Indiana Draft Status: Round 1; Pick 1 It was a strange journey for Mendoza to become the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Unlike recent top quarterbacks like Caleb Williams and Trevor Lawrence , there was very little buzz for Mendoza coming out of high school. He originally committed to Yale, but flipped to California, where he redshirted his first year and took over the starting job midway through his redshirt freshman season. As a full-time starter in his sophomore season, Mendoza showed development, but nothing that could have predicted his leap into his third year in college. Mendoza produced one of the all-time great college quarterback seasons in 2025 after transferring to Indiana, going 16-0 on route to a National Championship, whilst winning the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O'Brien Award, and most crucially the Heisman Trophy. That cemented him as the top overall pick in a weaker quarterback class, where he lands in Las Vegas as hopefully their first franchise quarterback since Derek Carr .
